Service Description
People and the coast: Investigate how artificial structures shape, change, and protect the natural coastlines. Collect data from a Groyne. Cost: €35.00 per student Location: Balscadden Bay Beach, Howth. Start time: 11.00 am (or tide dependent) Finish time: 2.00 pm Pay your deposit and complete the booking form to secure your space. ETB's and PO numbers, please contact us directly for a voucher code. The beach is very close to the harbour and the Dart station, making public transport to the field study cost-effective. This hands-on field study allows students to investigate the impact of artificial features on the natural coastline. Students compare a section of the beach that has been altered by human intervention with a nearby, untouched area. They will observe firsthand the effects and changes to the coast. Through this investigation, students will deepen their understanding of coastal dynamics and the balance between artificial structures and the natural coastline. We offer an entirely outdoor field study experience. Our structured workbooks with clear instructions ensure students collect accurate, relevant data that directly supports their GI write-up. We will provide Wellington boots. clipboards and specialist equipment to ensure students can comfortably engage with their fieldwork. Programme example: 11.00 am Arrive and meet the instructors, have snacks, and have time to use the facilities. 11.15 am Safety brief, change into Wellingtons, and collect equipment. Walk to the beach. 1.30 pm Back to the car park - change and have lunch. 2.00 pm Finish. Depart.
Cancellation Policy
A booking is only secured when a booking form and non-refundable deposit of €150.00 is received (you may transfer this deposit to another date). Final participant numbers must be confirmed 7 days before your field study and you will be invoiced for this amount regardless of a fall in numbers. Extra students may be added subject to availability and extra costs. Payment must be received before or on arrival. ETB schools may provide an Order Number. Non-compliance with payment conditions may result in cancellation and a non-refund of deposit. There may be other schools with Branch Out on the same day but each school will have their own group and instructor. The financial cost of cancellation by the customer is 100% of the fee if cancelled 7 days prior to the event. Branch Out reserves the right to cancel or postpone an event due to unforeseen circumstances or safety. A field study will only be cancelled due to weather conditions if an orange or above weather warning is issued by Met Eireann and the event will be rescheduled. A field study that must be cancelled due to a participant who is difficult or poses a danger to themselves, other participants or staff will not be refunded.
